In April, GMC teamed with the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation to host the Honoring our Heroes Gala. The sixth event of its kind, the gala supports the Siller Foundation’s Smart Home Program as well as the Fallen of Wounded Soldiers Fund of Michigan.
The Smart Home Program helps provide wounded service members with custom homes catered to improving their quality of life. These smart homes are offered completely mortgage-free — a comparatively small gesture for the price that many of these soldiers have paid for their country.
“GMC’s Professional Grade identity is a perfect fit for these organizations because it is the same philosophy these veterans live by day in and day out,” said GMC Marketing Director Rich Latek. “This mindset drives us to strengthen our efforts and help provide our veterans the state-of-the-art Smart Homes they need to achieve independent lives.”
GMC playing a key role in the Honoring our Heroes Gala is just the latest example of General Motors supporting the military and veterans. GM employs around 5,000 veterans around America and plans to hire 500 more vets by the end of 2022.
GM also supported the Siller Foundation’s Smart Home Program as well as the Fallen of Wounded Soldiers Fund of Michigan in April with a live concert at Sound Board — Motor City Casino. Proceeds from that show, which featured award-nominated country act Big & Rich, benefited both organizations.

With a $7 billion investment, General Motors is creating approximately 4,000 jobs and paving the way for an electric future for its lineups. The sizable investment will be distributed across four manufacturing sites in Michigan, and in addition to creating jobs, it will also help retain the livelihood of approximately 1,000 current employees.
The goal of this investment is to increase battery cell production as well as create the necessary infrastructure for manufacturing electric trucks.
“Today we are taking the next step in our continuous work to establish GM’s EV leadership by making investments in our vertically integrated battery production in the U.S., and our North American EV production capacity,” said Mary Barra, GM Chair and CEO. “Our plan creates the broadest EV portfolio of any automaker and further solidifies our path toward U.S. EV leadership by mid-decade.”
By 2025, GM plans to lead the automotive industry in the sales of electric vehicles, and this recent investment into four of their manufacturing sites is a pivotal step in reaching that goal.
The Orion Assembly will focus on electric truck production while the Lansing site will produce Ultium Cells batteries. The next-generation Chevy Traverse and Buick Enclave will occur at the Lansing Delta Township Assembly and upgrades are set for the Lansing Grand River Assembly.
Forget about underpowered electric vehicles. The all-new electric GMC Sierra Denali is on its way, and it’s bound to prove that EVs can deliver groundbreaking power, impressive capabilities, and rugged good looks.
Capabilities & Technology
“Sierra Denali holds tremendous equity for GMC and our customers,” explained vice president of GMC Duncan Aldred. “We now have an opportunity to evolve Sierra’s capabilities and technologies, as afforded by transitioning to an all-electric propulsion while also elevating the luxurious design and comfort associated with Denali.”
GMC Electric Vehicles
The electric Sierra Denali is slated to be the third GMC electric vehicle. It will follow other rugged, capable models, such as the GMC Hummer EV SUV and Pickup models. Like the two upcoming Hummers, the Sierra Denali will be based on the Ultium Platform. And on top of that strong base, it’ll boast a wealth of premium features and top-quality craftsmanship.
Currently, GMC hasn’t set a release date for this revolutionary pickup truck. However, we do know that the electric GMC Sierra Denali will be built right here in the United States. These innovative trucks will roll off the line at the GM Factory ZERO Assembly Plant in Detroit and Hamtramck, Michigan.

“Sierra’s momentum continues to accelerate, as the fastest growing model in the segment,” said Duncan Aldred, global vice president of GMC and Buick. “With the 2022 Sierra, GMC is offering customers more advanced technologies, upscale appointments, and increased capability across the Sierra lineup, including the all-new Sierra Denali Ultimate and AT4X.”
The available Duramax® turbodiesel engine generates 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. A properly equipped 2022 Sierra 1500 (Duramax® engine and rear-wheel drive) will be able to tow a maximum weight of 13,200 pounds. Compared to the 2021 Sierra 1500, the 2022 model can tow 4,000 more pounds. How did GMC do it? They made changes to the Sierra 1500’s chassis. The changes meant the truck could handle the automaker’s maximum towing package, which thus enabled the increased towing capacity.
Rear-wheel drive-equipped 2022 Sierra 1500’s aren’t the only models that boast an impressive towing capacity increase. 2022 Sierra 1500 models with four-wheel drive can tow a maximum weight of 13,000 pounds. This rating is 4,000-more pounds than the 2021 Sierra 1500’s maximum towing capacity of 9,000 pounds.
